Headaches & Neck Pain

There are many different reasons for headaches.  A common cause is muscular tension at the base of the skull or mechanical strain of the joints in the neck and upper back.  Poor posture from spending long hours at a computer or behind the wheel of a car, poor sleeping position or sleeping pattern, stress and poor diet and water intake may also pre-dispose to headaches.

After a thorough assessment to eliminate non-mechanical causes of headache, your osteopath can use a wide range of techniques to help relieve muscle tension and improve spinal mobility.  They may also provide advice on altering your sitting/standing posture, work station ergonomics, sleeping position and diet and suggest other lifestyle changes where appropriate.

Osteopathic treatment can help reduce the occurrence and intensity of migraines and headaches.  In some cases, it may even be more effective than taking pain relief medication – which often only addresses the symptoms and not to real cause of the problem.
